Washington, DC, August 28, 2017. The International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) is pleased to announce that its Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Patrick Masambu, has been invited to be a member of the m-Powering Development Initiative Advisory Board.
The m-Powering Development Initiative was launched in Dubai on the occasion of the ITU Telecom World 2012, against the backdrop of mobile subscriptions having crossed the 6 billion mark and with mobile broadband becoming increasingly available. The objective of the initiative is to harness the capabilities of mobile devices to empower users and power development and economic activity.
Spearheaded by the ITU BDT, the Advisory Board seeks to leverage the ubiquity of mobile technologies beyond basic communications by facilitating the delivery of business, education, health, banking and other services leading to socio-economic development in urban, semi-urban, and remote rural areas. In doing so, the Board will contribute to the successful implementation of the United Nations adopted Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) under the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.
In accepting the invitation of the m-Powering Development Initiative Advisory Board, Mr. Masambu reaffirms his commitment to using ICTs for sustainable development. He has nominated Ms. Renata Brazil-David, ITSO’s Director of Legal Affairs, to be his focal point.
