ITSO’s Director General, Dr. Renata Brazil-David
Dr. Brazil-David officially takes office today.

Today signifies another important step forward in the ongoing efforts of the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) to assure that all countries of the world have non-discriminatory access to advanced satellite telecommunications services on a global basis and thereby advancing the global ICT development agenda, with Dr. Renata Brazil-David assuming the position of Director General of ITSO, beginning an initial four-year term extending through July 2029.
Dr. Brazil-David, a Brazilian national, was elected as the next Director General of ITSO during the Forty-First Assembly of Parties meeting in Washington, D.C., in October 2025
With extensive experience in global telecommunications and satellite communications, Dr. Brazil-David has held key leadership positions, including Deputy Director General, Director of International and Regulatory Affairs, and Director of Legal Affairs at ITSO Headquarters in Washington, D.C., for over a decade. Her deep understanding of ITSO’s mission, challenges, and opportunities positions her to drive meaningful impact on the global stage.
Beyond ITSO, Dr. Brazil-David has served as Director of Regulatory Policy at Inmarsat (now part of ViaSat), as an adjunct professor at American University Washington College of Law (AUWCL), and as Associate Director of the Program on Brazil-U.S. Comparative Law at AUWCL.
Her election marks a historic moment for ITSO, as she becomes the first woman to hold the position of Director General. Committed to ITSO’s mission, Dr. Brazil-David aims to ensure the continued availability of global satellite communications and lead the organization with integrity, transparency, and a vision for a more connected, inclusive, and sustainable world.
Dr. Brazil-David holds a Master’s in Law from the University of Essex and a Doctor of Juridical Science (S.J.D.) from American University Washington College of Law.

The International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO) is an intergovernmental organization based in Washington, DC, with 149 member nations. ITSO’s role is to ensure that Intelsat, S.A. provides public telecommunications services, including voice, data and video, on a global and non-discriminatory basis.
